Water Ingress Alarm System for Bulk cariers

 

SEAPART  WATER INGRESS ALARM SYSTEM  type GASSAS 06-2004 was developed according to the latest requirements from IMO, IACS and all major classification societies.

 

GASSAS 06-2004 is a permanent water ingress detection system for bulk carriers fully type approved in accordance with SOLAS XII Regulation 12, IACS UR S24, IMO performance standard for water level detectors & IACS UI SC180. The system comprises of a central control and alarm panel interfacing with intrinsically safe water level detectors installed in each compartment.

 

The system is designed for 115-230V AC main power and 24V DC  emergency power supply. Emergency power supply is from vessel's emergency source of electrical power.

 

The alarm panel has been located on the bridge. And for not to be interface with the night vision, the brightness of the visual alarms and indicators can be adjusted by a switch. 

 

The sensor is a capacitive proximity switch. The sensor is based on capacitive principal and will work in any cargo onboard a bulk carrier. The sensor is for use all cargo holds, Fore Peak Tank and Bosun Store

 

The sensor has been constructed and tested according to IMO APPLICATION GUIDELINE valid for sensors used for this purpose.

 

Respective alarm channels on the alarm panel have a manual override switch. The switch is to be operated when the ForePeak Tank is used for ballast in order to avoid unnecessary alarms. Audible and visual alarms are present in the navigation bridge for all corgo holds (pre-alarm and main alarm) any ballast tank forward of the collision bulkhead and any dry or void space any part of which extends forward of the foremost cargo hold. 

 

In addition to cargo hold alarms the system also indicates and gives alarm when there is an open circuit, short circuit, broken wire, earth fault in the water ingress sensor or water ingress sensors cable, processor fault or power fault occurs or if main power supply or emergency power supply should fail.

 

For the audible alarms there are 2 types. One for pre-alarm (intermittent beeping) one for main alarm (continuously beeping). And also for fault alarms there is an audible alarm too.

 

There are alarm relays for; upper level alarm , low level alarm , broken wire alarm and short circuit alarm. With potential free contacts for external alarm in addition to 24V DC outputs for external alarm as loop failure, power/system failure, lights and horns.

 

The system can be delivered for console mounting or with alarm panel and electronics in one cabinet.

Water Ingress Alarm Panel
Function Description.

 

AAA - SYSTEM COMPONENTS
The Water Ingress Alarm complete package includes the following components:

AA-1-Monitoring Alarm Panel (mounted on bridge)

  1. Main Control Card
  2. Battery Charger
  3. BACKUP Battery
  4. Mixture and Clean Water Detection cards (C.W.D.)

AA-2-Zener Barriers (mounted in a junction box, which is located in the accomodation area)

AA2-  Level Sensors

Our Level Sensor's principle is based on Electrode Level Measurement. They are made of stainless steel (316) metal and come with lifetime guaranty.

Water Ingress Sensors (IP68 with 35m cable on each sensor). A maximum number of 22 sensors can be connected on the system.

 

BBB- MAIN PANEL DESCRIPTION

When the system is powered on, it automatically starts to test itself for all the bellow listed FAULTS.
These fault alarms are in accordance with SC180.

 

  1. Disconnected lines (sensor)
  2. Short-circuits (sensor)




  3. Ground FaultOur system is completely isolated from all the vessels power supplies (24VDC, 110VAC and 220VAC) so, in case that the electrodes cables comes in touch with the vessel's ground, the system is not affected.In case when both cables of the same electrode come in touch with the vessel's ground, then we have a shortcircuit, which is indicated by the system. The sensors which are connectedthrough the C.W.D. function the same way.If in any case the power supply to the C.W.D. is interrupted, then the system will indicate a line problem to the  relative sensor, because the C.W.D. is used as a sensor for the particular point.

  4. CPU failureIn the case when the buzzer relative the SYSTEM FAILURE starts sounding and the GENERAL ALARM L.E.D. does NOT flicker, but remains lit, then the system CPU is damaged and a technician is needed.

  5. Power FailureThe Alarm Panel consists of six different visual indication groups (L.E.D.s), three different sounding indications and three function buttons. These items are listed bellow and are described in more detail in the next paragraphs. All alarms relative to Level Sensors have a time delay of 18 seconds in order to avoid false alarms.

 

Visual Indications:
The following visual alarms and indicators do NOT interfere with the night vision:

 

Level Alarm
There are two different group of red Level Alarms (picture 1.1, 0.5m/2.0m). Last LED in each row indicates Level Alarm in forepeak (left row) and forward store (right row).

 

Ground Fault
Our system is not required to be equipped with Ground Fault Alarm because our sensor's electrodes are totally separated.

 

Line Short-Circuit
There is one Yellow LED for each sensor installed. Yellow LED is lit when problem to the sensor connection occurs.

 

Line Disconnection
There is one Yellow LED for each sensor installed. Yellow LED is lit when problem to the sensor connection occurs.

 

Overridden Alarms
There is one row of ten orange LEDs, 1 LED for each cargo hold / forepeak / forward store

Sounding Indications
Three different in pattern buzzer sounding alarms are installed inside the alarm panel. Our system has one sounding

indication for each of the bellow alarms:
        0.5m level alarm indication
        2.0m level alarm indication
The same sounding pattern is used for ballast tanks / void spaces

SOLAS REGULATION 12

Hold, Ballast And Dry Space Water Ingress Alarms




  1. Bulk carriers shall be fitted with water level detectors.in each cargo hold, giving audible and visual alarms, one when the water level above the inner bottom in any hold reaches a height of 0.5 m and another at a height not less than 15% of the depth of the cargo hold but not more than 2.0 meters. On bulk carriers to which regulation 9.2 applies, only the latter alarm need be installed. The water level detectors shall be fitted in the aft end of the cargo holds. For cargo holds which are used for water ballast, an alarming overriding device may be installed. The visual alarms shall clearly discriminate between the two different level detectors in each hold;in any ballast tank forward of the collision bulkhead required by regulation II-1/11, giving an audible and visual alarm when the liquid in the tank reaches a level not exceeding 10% of the tank capacity. An alarm overriding device may be installed to be activated when the tank is in use; andin any dry or void space other than a chain locker, any part of which extends forward of the foremost cargo hold, giving an audible and visual alarm at a water level of 0.1 m above the deck. Such alarms need not be provided in enclosed spaces the volume of which does not exceed 0.1 of the ship's maximum displacement volume.
  2. The audible and visual alarms specified in pragraph 1 shall be located on the navigation bridge.
  3. Bulk carriers constructed before 1 July 2004 shall comply with requirements of this regulation not later than the date of first annual, intermediate or renewal survey of the ship to be carried out after 1 July 2004.
